How do I configure spine label printer settings in Internet Explorer for IBM, Okidata, and Digital LA30N?

Step 1: Define Label Forms

To define label forms

1.      From the Windows desktop, open Control Panel. Double-click Printers and Faxes.

2.      On the File menu, click Server Properties.

3.      The Print Server Properties window will appear. Select the Create a New Form checkbox.

4.      Complete the following fields:

§   For Spine & Pocket Label Stock

o    Form description for: Label

o    Width: 4.88in (or 12.4cm)

o    Height: 1.34in (or 3.4cm)

o    Left, Right, Top, Bottom: 0.00in (or 0.00cm)

§   For OCLC Single-Up Spine Stock

o    Form description for: Spine Label

o    Width: 3.00in (or 7.62cm)

o    Height: 2.00in (or 5.08cm)

o    Left, Right, Top, Bottom: 0.00in (or 0.00cm)

5.      Click Save Form.

  

Step 2: Add the Printer

To add the printer

1.      In Control Panel, double-click Printers and Faxes.

2.      Double-click Add Printer. The Add Printer Wizard will appear; click Next.

3.      Select Local Printer, and then click Next.

4.      Select Use the following port, and then select LPT1. Click Next.

5.      Edit the following settings:

·           IBM 4226 and Okidata 420

§   Manufacturer: Select Digital.

§   Printer: Select LA310 (this sets the LA310 driver).

·           Digital LA30N

§   Manufacturer: Select Epson.

§   Printer: Select Epson Compatible 24 Pin.

6.      Click Next. When prompted, enter a name for the printer (e.g., IMB 4226, Okidata 420 or LA30N). Click Next.

7.      Select Yes to set the printer as the default. Select Do not share this printer. Click Next.

8.       When prompted to print a test page, select No. Click Finish.

9.      Click once on the newly added printer to select it. On the File menu, click Properties.

10.   In the window that appears, click Printing Preferences.

11.   Click the Paper/Quality tab. In the Paper Source field, select Tractor Feed.

12.   Click Advanced. The Advanced Options window will appear. In the Paper Size field, select Label or Spine Label, depending on use.

13.   Click OK to close the window. Click Apply and then click OK.

14.   Click the Advanced tab, and then click Printing Defaults.

15.   In the window that appears, click the Paper/Quality tab. In the Paper Source field, select Tractor Feed.

16.   Click Advanced; the Advanced Options window will appear. In the Paper Size field, select Label or Spine Label, depending on use.

17.   Click OK to close the window. Click Apply and then click OK.

18.   In the printer properties window, click the Device Settings tab.

19.    In the Tractor Feed field, select Label or Spine Label, depending on use. Click OK.

Step 3: Change Page Setup in Internet Explorer

To change page setup in IE

1.      Open Internet Explorer. On the File menu, click Page Setup.

2.      Click Printer. In the Name field, select the printer added earlier, and then click OK.

3.      Edit the following fields:

§   Paper Size: Select Label or Spine Label, as appropriate.

§   Paper Source: Select Tractor Feed.

§   Header, Footer: Delete any information in these fields.

§   Left: Set the margin to .25.

§   Right, Top, Bottom: Set the margins to 0.0.

4.      Click OK.

 

  

Step 4: Print from the Aleph Client

Verify that print setup information is correct. These settings should appear automatically based on previous setup procedures.

To verify print setup

1.      Open the Cataloging module. Bring up an item in the Items activity tab. Click Label. A print preview will appear. Click Print.

2.      Select the appropriate printer (IMB 4226, Okidata 420, or Digital LA30N).

3.      Click Preferences, and then click the Paper/Quality tab.

4.      In the Paper Source field, select Tractor Feed.

5.      Click Advanced. An advanced options window will appear. In the Paper Size field, select Label or Spine Label as appropriate.

6.      Click OK and then click Print.

Note: To complete print setup for the LA30N printer, press the Protocol button until the PPX24 and DEC lights are lit.

 

 

 

Step 5: Configure the LINCC Print.ini File

To configure the print.ini file [ocean_arrow_sm_sp_down.gifview steps]

1.      Open the Aleph Administration module (ALEPHADM). On the Configuration menu, click Print Configuration.

2.      The Print Configuration window will appear. In the Applications list, select Cataloging.

3.      In the upper portion of the screen, double-click the number in the ID field next to ItemLabel, select the number, and enter a new ID number. Use the same procedure to change the ID for ItemLabelPrint.

ItemLabel is used to print labels for one item by clicking Label in the Item List. ItemLabelPrint is used to print multiple labels by clicking Print Item Label in the Utilities menu.

ID number options include:

§   01: Print spine label on 4-7/8” width Spine/Pocket Label stock.

§   02: Print spine and pocket label on 4-7/8” width Spine/Pocket Label stock.

§   03: Print spine label on OCLC Single-Up Spine Labels stock (3” width).

§   04: Print spine label using the Dymo LabelWriter Turbo 330 or 400.

§   05: Print spine and pocket label on 4-7/8” width Spine/Pocket Label stock with the description field.

§   06: Print spine label on OCLC Single-Up Spine Labels stock (3” width) stock with the description field.

§   07: Print spine and pocket label, both text and barcode formats, on the Laser labels sl4 with the description field on the Spine Label. If this option is used, set margins in Internet Explorer as follows: Left, Right = 0.25, Top = 0.29, Bottom = 0.38.

4.      Click Save, and then click Close. Close the ALEPH Administration module.
